Throughout the Learn More pages, visual “tags” help differentiate between positions. These include:

A career starter is a great entry point into the behavioral health field in general or a specific career path. It is an opportunity to start working sooner, rather than finishing one’s education before starting work. In Career Starter positions, you can earn a salary and gain work experience while attending college or other training programs.

Job titles with this tag require a license, before they can practice in the state of Ohio. Explore the Learn More pages and the Licensing and Credentialing page for more information about the licensing processes for each job.

Many job titles, including licensed positions, require supervision by a more experienced and more highly credentialed/licensed colleague in the field. The “Supervised Practice” tag indicates a job title or licensing pathway that requires working under the supervision of an “Independent Practice” job title. In most cases, earning additional education and/or experience can move you from a Supervised Practice position to an Independent Practice position.

Independent Practice means that you can see clients without another clinician supervising you. This tag indicates positions with higher requirements than the Supervised Practice positions. Individuals who wish to go into “private practice” to see clients must reach a Supervised Practice level of credentialing/licensure.

Only three job titles in behavioral health can currently prescribe psychiatric medications in Ohio. The “Prescriber” tag marks positions with prescribing authority.
